2020 FAIR HAS BEEN CANCELLED

It’s official: The 2020 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair has been cancelled.

Citing the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, Kiwanis officials said the impact on community health and well-being was the primary concern in the decision to cancel the event.

Scott Cortner, Newnan Kiwanis Fair Committee Chairman, said the health and safety of volunteers and the community is the group’s highest priority.

“This decision was not taken lightly,” Cortner said.“This was a trough decision because we recognize the impact this has on the community, but the health and welfare of the public is more important.”

“The other big issue is the restrictions,” he continued.“The social distancing, wearing masks, sanitizing – we just don’t feel we have the resources to enforce all that.”

As the COVID-19 becomes less of an issue, Kiwanis will look for other ways to help raise money for the community, according to Christopher Gilliam. Newnan Kiwanis President.

“For more than 70 years, the Kiwanis Club of Newnan has improved the lives of the citizens of Coweta County through annual monetary grants to over 35 nonprofit organizations in our community, totaling over $2.8 million in the past 10 years,” Gilliam said.“We, our sponsors, our volunteers and all those who work countless hours to make the fair all that it is and look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2021.”

Since 1947 the Newnan Kiwanis Club has sponsored the local fair, end with the exception of one year, has sponsored each annual event since.
